About
What this is
Sensus Fidei was created with a complicated but necessary goal: to try to redirect Catholics into living our Faith out in every element of our lives. This is a complicated task because of the effects that modern culture and principles have had on everyone living in modernity. It is very easy to underestimate the amount of influence the world can have on an individual. We tend to think that we have escaped the effects of the culture because we have our Faith, and because we try to live in accord with our Faith. The reality is that at every point in human history there are temptations that are relevant to that time and place, and it can be very difficult to extract those temptations if you have been steeped in a culture that embraces them.
Some might disagree with this analysis because they participate in counter-cultural ideas such as the protests against widespread legalization of abortion. It is easy to be a part of these protests and assume that, because we are fighting this grave evil, we are completely set apart from the ill effects that have plagued the rest of our society. In a way this is true and very good; however, we should not use these good acts to excuse the many other areas of our lives in which we may be falling short of our Catholic duties. My purpose is not to detract from the current efforts against the evils of our time, but rather to strengthen those efforts with a reminder that there are many other layers to living a Catholic life which we have a duty to engage in and constantly perfect ourselves in.
This then is my purpose: to analyze, as best I can, the ways in which we integrate our Catholicism into each major duty of a Catholic layman’s life and to address the modern challenges that we face in performing those duties. I am not a theologian, and I lack the experience many of my readers have, so I welcome and will publish any objections to my articles.
God bless,
